The Nigerian Correctional Service has said that the number of inmates that escaped from its facility in Imo state after early Monday’s attack is yet unknown.
Daily Correspondents report that commando-style armed men suspected to be terrorists at about 2:30am on Monday attacked the Imo Police Command Headquarters and the Correctional Centre with explosives and freed some inmates.
The Public Relations Officer of the service in Imo, James Madugba, while confirming the incident to Daily Correspondents, said many inmates escaped, and some operational vehicles were set ablaze by the hoodlums during the attack.
He added that the services was yet to confirm the numbers of escaped inmates and damaged vehicles.
