Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have launched an attack Thursday afternoon on a military outpost in Marina, Safana local government of Katsina state.
Witnesses say the attack was carried out around 1pm on Thursday.
Many soldiers were feared killed, including the unit commander, identified as Staff Sergeant Alexander.
It was learnt that the soldiers were returning from military operation from nearby forests when they were ambushed.
“Unknown to the soldiers, the gunmen have ambushed them in their outpost. They opened fire immediately the soldiers returned to the posts,” another villager who declined being named told newsmen.
“It is unfortunate because the soldiers were just returning from another operations, combing the forests for bandits only to be waylaid in their base,” he said.
