Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, has congratulated Nigerian music stars Burna Boy and Wizkid over their Grammy Award victories at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
The 63rd awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles Convention Centre in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The awards recognized the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, running from September 1, 2019, to August 31, 2020.
Daily Correspondents report that Burna Boy won the Best Global Music Album category for his album ‘Twice As Tall’, while Wizkid won the Best Music Video for his song with Beyoncé titled ‘Brown Skin Girl’.
The Special Assistant to the President on Media, Segun Adeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said the minister described the “much-deserved awards” as fitting rewards for the “persistent hard work of the duo”.
According to him, the awards represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance in the music world.
Mr Adeyemi quoted the minister as expressing hope that prestigious awards would not only “spur the singers to greater heights but would also serve as a source of inspiration for others”.
