The Speaker of Edo state, Mr. Frank Okiye, has tested positive for Coronavirus even as Governor Godwin has gone into self isolation following news that Abba Kyari, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff has contracted the disease.

Godwin Obaseki, Edo State Governor

Deputy governor of Edo state, Hon. Philip Shaibu, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City said Okiye who recently returned from the United Kingdom had gone into isolation, adding that a test carried out on his sample showed positive.

The deputy governor said the speaker is the index case in the state whose identity was not revealed on Monday.

Shaibu stated that the speaker’s wife and daughter who had closed contact with him however tested negative.

According to him, “the state task force on anti-COVID-19 has successfully tracked 64 percent of 111 persons on the contact tracing list.”

Shaibu further disclosed that six persons are currently being isolated while five samples have been taken for test.

Similarly, media aide to governor Godwin Obaseki, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the governor’s sample has been sent for test.

According to Crusoe, Obaseki went into isolation following his close contact with Bauchi State governor, Bala Muhammed and Abba Kyari who have both tested positive for coronavirus.

“The governor had met Senator Mohammed at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and also visited Mr. Kyari at the National Economic Council (NEC) meetings

“Although, the governor is not showing any symptoms of the virus, he has taken the necessary precaution to self-isolation in a bid to protect people that may otherwise come in contact with him,” Crusoe said.
